Please, Don’t Save Us
Sometimes I genuinely don’t know whether I should laugh at the world’s politicians or curse them!
Every day, someone in a perfectly pressed suit stands behind a podium and, with an expression as if they have just become the ultimate authority on the entire world, says:
“We went to war for the security of our people.”
Excellent!
Just out of curiosity: where exactly are the people?
Because it is strange; every time a war begins, missiles head toward people’s homes, while the very people who started the war are usually safely tucked away somewhere very secure!
They see war on a map; people watch war from the windows of their homes.
They talk about “victory”; people are looking for a safe place to stay.
They say: “Casualties are inevitable.”
Yes, of course!
Just one little point:
The inevitable casualties are usually not your family!
And how interesting that in today’s political culture, our bomb is always called “defense,” while the enemy’s bomb is always called “terrorism.”
If our missile hits your home, it is a crime; if it hits our home, it is a “precision military operation”!
Apparently, missiles have nationalities too, and before they explode, they show their passports!
Then some people sit down and solemnly announce:
“We do not want the war to escalate.”
My dear sir, if you truly do not want the war to escalate, perhaps you should stop adding anything to it!
It is exactly like someone pouring gasoline all over the middle of the house and then anxiously asking:
“Kids, does anyone have a match?”
The world is tired of this performance.
People no longer want to know who is stronger.
They do not want to know which leader gives the better speech.
They do not want to see more flags.
They just want to stay alive.
A child who falls asleep to the sound of explosions has no interest in your geopolitical analysis.
A mother who does not know whether her child is alive or not is not going to applaud your “international credibility.”
A father whose home has been destroyed will not have his house rebuilt by hearing the phrase “strategic victory.”
So, gentlemen of power, please do humanity one historic favor:
Don’t save the world!
We will somehow manage to survive on our own.
Just put down your weapons, step away from the podium, and let people live without the sound of explosions.
Because if every time you fight for peace, bomb for security, and sacrifice people in the name of saving people...
Perhaps humanity really doesn’t need a new enemy; you are enough for us!
This is the only “peace operation” that would truly benefit the people.
