The Last Home; The Cemetery Where Everyone Eventually Ends
Every morning when we open our eyes, we return from a temporary death. We have passed through a night whose ending was never guaranteed. Thousands of people began the same night that we did, but they never saw the sunrise. We woke up not because of our own power, but because God granted us another opportunity.
And yet, how quickly we forget this gift.
Once again, we lose ourselves in the noise of life. We run after having more, strive for progress, sometimes break hearts, sometimes carry resentment, and often live as if death was written only for others.
How strange it is. Every day we awaken from a sleep that resembles death, yet we still refuse to believe that one day another sleep will arrive — a sleep after which there will be no awakening in this world.
A day will come when we embrace our loved ones for the last time, look at the sky for the last time, and take our final breath. On that day, no wealth will buy us even one more minute. Neither power, nor fame, nor status will delay that journey.
At that moment, everything will remain behind: the homes we spent years building, the wealth for which we sacrificed our peace while collecting it, and the conflicts that were never worth the hatred they created.
The only things that will accompany us are our good deeds: the hands we held, the tears we wiped away, the hearts we comforted, the rights we respected, the smiles we brought to someone’s face, and the kindness we offered without expecting anything in return.
Perhaps if every morning before beginning our day we asked ourselves:
"If today were the last day of my life, how would I choose to live?"
many of our decisions would change. We would forgive more easily, love more sincerely, judge less, and simply become more human.
Life is too short to be wasted on hatred, pride, and hostility. Days pass one after another until suddenly we realize that everything we thought we would do "someday" has become impossible, because that day never came.
Before it is too late, let us leave a trace of kindness in this world. Because when our eyes close forever, no one will ask how much we accumulated. What will matter is how much we gave, how deeply we loved, and how faithfully we lived as human beings.
Blessed is the one who leaves this world carrying nothing but goodness.
